DESCRIPTION:
The beautiful features in this belt buckle will make you appreciate Native American art! This piece of Native American jewelry is Hopi overlay hand crafted by artist George Phillips, out of genuine sterling silver. Overlay is a process that utilizes at least two layers of sterling silver. One layer forms the foundation, while the second is used to design the individual detailed overlay. In this belt buckle, the second layer forms an amazing Red Bearded Kachina design that gives the piece a gorgeous finish. The Red Bearded Kachina is one of the most favored Kachinas among the Hopis. They are appreciated because of the melodious songs and the beautiful dances that they do in the spring. The main purpose of the Angakchina is to bring rain to the people and their crops. Their long hair, which is worn loosely down the back, resembles the falling rain with the eagle breast plumes rising like clouds above it. These kachinas appear in the Niman Ceremony on First Mesa. The Tawa AngakChina has the same functions as the AngakCina, the only difference is the color of the beard. The belt buckle is stamped sterling and hallmarked.
